Mt. Hood Corridor Wildfire Mitigation Fair
On Saturday May 13, 2023, 223 local and regional visitors attended a Wildfire Preparedness Fair hosted by Timberline Lodge and supported by over 28 partners from the Mt. Hood Corridor Wildfire Partnership.
114 instances of learning were reported across a variety of topics. The most learning occurred on topics related to home hardening & defensible space, forest fuels management, and agency resources and assistance available to residents to reduce wildfire risk. Of those who participated in the evaluation activity (approximately 90 attendees), only 3 attendees reported that they didn’t learn anything new...but they did have fun!
The event also provided the opportunity to assess the concerns and needs of local residents (about 45% of attendees) and regional visitors related to wildfire preparedness. 91% of survey respondents said they were somewhat (24%) or very (66%) concerned about wildfire risk to where they live, work and recreate. The majority of survey takers say they get their news about wildfires from official/government websites or social media accounts. The top topics that attendees suggested they want to learn more about included: emergency preparedness tips for evacuation, what could happen during a wildfire at Mt. Hood, and how to prepare for a PSPS.
